So How Good is The Campbell Hausfeld Portable Air Compressor?
The Campbell Hausfeld portable air compressor performs reasonably well on light duty tasks, such as inflating tires and blowing off PCs and work spaces. However I have found that each time the nozzle is changed that you have to ensure that the seal is airtight by using PTFE tape. If I don’t use the tape, then I find the system struggles to get up to pressure.

Nozzles and Accessories
The Campbell Hausfeld portable air compressor comes with a range of accessories and nozzles that provide compatibility with a range of woodworking tools, such as lightweight nail guns, and also has a Schrader valve connector and a needle connector. Changing the nozzles and valves is not the quickest of jobs because they are screw-on and have to have PTFE tape in the joint to ensure a proper seal is obtained. The trigger insert is very useful for airing up tires so that the air flow can be regulated.

The pressure gauges on the body of the compressor indicate internal pressures, which is ideal for DIY jobs where the output pressure is the parameter that is needed to be known in order to successfully operate tools such as nail guns. However if you are inflating tires you will need a separate tire pressure gauge. The maximum PSI rating of 110 PSI means that this compressor will be able to deal with many tasks, but it is not suitable for my high pressure road bicycle tires.

I have used this compressor for a number of tasks, and it is good for low volume inflation tasks, such as inflating balls, mountain bike tires and car tires, but it is not useful for larger volume applications, such as the inflation of air beds. The PSI rating of this compressor also means that it is not useful for inflating my road bike tires, which require over 115 PSI.

Ease of Use
Once you have broken this air compressor in it will function as you would expect it to. However I found that the information surrounding the break-in process and then maintaining the compressor properly was not that easy to find and the instructions that were available assumed a lot of prior knowledge.

Value for Money
The Campbell Hausfeld portable air compressor is probably the cheapest air compressor I have seen on the market and for a light duty compressor it provides reasonable value for money if you want to use it for a range of tasks. However, I would not buy this as a dedicated bicycle tire inflator as there are much better, and cheaper, options available.

I think this air compressor is ok and is quite good value for money, but I do think that the level of maintenance and specialist knowledge to use it and to keep it operating at a decent performance is excessive for a general use pump.
