If you prefer an analogue pressure gauge, and also one that you can use inline with a pump, the Topeak Shuttle pressure gauge might be just the device for you. A little heavier than many other gauges, but still has plenty of functionality. Check out some of the pros and cons to find out whether this is the gauge for you:
- Can be used inline or standalone
- Rated to 300 PSI
- Precision bleeder valve
- Pressure-Rite anti-air loss connector
- Weighs 120g
So How Good is The Topeak Shuttle Pressure Gauge?
Accuracy and Pressure Rating
The Topeak Shuttle pressure gauge is rated to 300 PSI and so it is ideal for use with high pressure shocks and forks. The high pressure rating also means that it can be used with any Schrader valve tires and high pressure road bicycle tires as well. The scale on the gauge means that it is difficult to resolve any further than about ±2.5 PSI, but the gauge provides highly repeatable measurements over time even if the pressure cannot be resolved to ±0.5 PSI.

The primary nozzle on this gauge is for use with Schrader valves. This is because the gauge is designed to be fully compatible with shocks and forks, and the ability to measure tire pressures is secondary to this. The gauge can either be used as a standalone item, or it can be used inline with a pump so that the pressure can be very carefully controlled both pumping up using the pump, and also letting pressure out in a controlled manner using the pressure release valve. There is also an adapter for use with Presta valves. I have found the anti-air loss connector to work really well and I don’t lose any air pressure when I connect the gauge.

The gauge has scales on the dial in both PSI and also in Bar so the correct pressure can easily be identified and applied. The gauge also has the flexibility to be used as a standalone gauge and also as an inline gauge, which makes getting tires up to the right pressure very simple. In addition to being used inline, the gauge also has a pressure release button so that pressure can be decreased in a tire or shock in a controlled manner while looking at the pressure.

I have used this gauge mostly for maintaining and updating the pressures in my shocks and also to monitor the pressures in my road bicycle tires. It provides very repeatable measurements, which makes it ideal for these tasks. I have also used it on lower pressure bicycle tires with Schrader valves and a couple of times on car tires as well, although if you only want a gauge for car tires, this is definitely overkill.

Ease of Use
The Topeak Shuttle pressure gauge is very easy to use in both of its positions. I found it very easy to get a seal on my shocks and the pressure reading was both stable and repeatable. The pump comes with a Presta valve adapter, which is easy to affix to the gauge, and again provides good pressure readings. The dial is easy to see and as long as you aren’t trying to get your pressures to within ±0.5 PSI, it is more than good enough to achieve an accurate and reliable reading.

Value for Money
At just over $30 this gauge is one of the more expensive ones on the market but I have found the construction to be solid and the gauge to be of excellent quality in terms of both accuracy and repeatability. The flexibility of use is also a bonus, as is the built-in pressure release valve.

I like this gauge a great deal as it will cope with all of my cycling requirements from inflating lower pressure mountain bike tires right through to airing up my high pressure shocks and forks. The gauge is more than good enough to get repeatable pressures, but if you prefer to have pressures indicated to 1 PSI then perhaps this isn’t the gauge for you.
