How Good is TheTopeak JoeBlow Sprint Floor Pump?

Performance

The Topeak JoeBlow Sprint floor pump performs very well and inflates all types of bicycle tires with ease. The double headed valve makes connection simple and the long stroke of the pump means that high pressures can be attained without large numbers of pumps. The 160 PSI pressure rating means that this pump is perfect for my high pressure road tires as well as my low pressure mountain bike tires.

Nozzles and Valves

The pump comes equipped with a T-head nozzle. One side is for Presta valves and the other for Schrader valves, which negates any potential issues of sharing a nozzle between different valve types. The pump also comes with a needle adapter for pumping up balls and a cone adapter for general inflatables. The attachment type for bike valves is a clamp-on arrangement and so there will be a small amount of air lost from the tire when you detach it.

Pressure Gauge

The gauge is very good. It is mounted at the top of the pump and is also coloured in such a way as to be easily readable. The gauge is reasonably accurate at high pressures and I have found that I can usually get within ±2 PSI of the pressure I need. The gauge is less accurate for my mountain bike tires, but these are less critical and easy to check with a pen gauge.

Durability and Warranty

The pump comes with a lifetime warranty. I have had my pump for a number of years and at one point the pump developed a leak. I wrote to the company describing the exact problem and they sent me the replacement parts, allowing me to restore my pump back to perfect condition. The aluminium, steel and rubber materials are made to last and I expect to get many more years of use out of this pump.

Applications

I use this pump regularly for all of the bicycle tires in the family and do not have any problems with any type of valve. The only valves that have ever caused any issues were ones that didn’t have much space around them making it difficult to get the T-head in the right place. The pump is also great for pumping up the various balls we have, including basketballs, footballs and volleyballs. The cone attachment is great for other jobs, such as beach balls, air beds and exercise balls.

Ease of Use

The Topeak JoeBlow Sprint floor pump is very easy to use. The nozzle fixes into place easily, although you do have to watch that you don’t push it onto the valve too tightly as this can impede the air flow. The large handles and sturdy base make pumping nice and easy and the long stroke fills tires up quickly.
