So How Good is The Lezyne Air Drive Mini Pump?

Performance

When it comes to pumping up tires from flat after repairing them on the road I have found this pump to be invaluable. Although it is bigger than a lot of frame pumps, it is not heavy and it has a number of features that make it much easier to use than mini pumps. While not as fast as a standard floor pump, this pump does a great job when I’ve had flats in the middle of nowhere.

Nozzles and Valves

The nozzle on the Micro Floor Drive is well-designed as it is a screw-on nozzle, which means that you get the versatility of being able to connect to both Presta and Schrader valves, but without the degradation that occurs in a universal push-on nozzle.

Pressure Gauge

The standard version of this pump comes without a gauge, which may be an issue for you if you want to get your tires back up to their optimum pressure after getting a flat on the road. However I have found the pump to be perfectly adequate without the gauge as a post-repair inflator to get me home. If you use this as your main pump, you would probably be better off with the gauged version, but without the gauge you do get to save some weight.

Applications

This is very much a dedicated bicycle pump and it does this job very well with a high-quality screw-on nozzle. There are no additional nozzle supplied with this pump so it is not for general use to inflate items, but it is possible to use it on other types of tire should the need arise.

Ease of Use

The pump is very easy to use as the hose gives me plenty of flexibility between the pump and the valve. I have found that this makes it much easier to get my tires back to a decent pressure after getting flats than using the traditional frame pumps. The foot peg is great for adding in a bit more stability to the pump making the job even easier. The only slight down side is that the groove across the top of the handle can make pumping a little uncomfortable, but as I usually have my cycling gloves on it isn’t too bad.

Value for Money

At $40 this is perhaps one of the more expensive frame pumps on the market, however it does offer the functionality and ease of use more associated with a floor pump. The high quality precision machined aluminium components also make this pump light and durable. Therefore it represents great value for money.

Final Verdict

Lezyne Road Specific Micro Floor Drive Pump

I really like this pump as a frame pump, which can pump in the style of a floor pump. If you need accurate tire pressures you will have to either purchase the version with a pressure gauge, or carry a pressure gauge with you, but for my use it is great without the gauge. All in all I find this to be a very useful piece of equipment to carry with me on my bike.
