So How Good is The Topeak Road Morph Mini Pump?

Performance

As an emergency pump this frame pump provides you with an option that you can use wherever you are. It is small and lightweight and although it does take some time to get a tire up to the higher pressures and also some effort, it does get there eventually. I do not use this as an everyday pump because of this, but it is ideal as an emergency pump for those occasions when I get a flat.

Nozzles and Valves

The Topeak Road Morph mini pump is compatible with both Presta and Schrader valves and uses a SmartHead ThreadLock connector. The connector that attaches to the valve is actually on the end of a hose, which is stored inside the pump. This provision of a hose means that you are less likely to damage the long stem Presta valves. I have used both fixed and hose connectors and find the hose connector to be much more forgiving even when pumping at higher pressures.

Applications

The RaceRocket is very much designed to be an emergency pump. It can be used on any tire and is capable of providing higher pressures that are required by road bicycles. I have found though that the amount of force I need to put through the pump when I get to around the 100 PSI mark is quite substantial and so have opted in the past to leave the tire at that pressure and leave the topping up to the floor pump at home. When there are no other options and you are stranded 20 miles from home, this is a great little pump to have around. I have also used it on my mountain bike when riding trails to adjust the tire pressure for different terrains, which can be a bit time consuming, but it means I can carry less weight.

Ease of Use

The presence of the hose and the SmartHead ThreadLock makes this a really easy pump to use on either Schrader or Presta valves. The hose makes it much easier to not damage a Presta valve as well. It takes a bit of time to get the tires up to a decent pressure, but all that requires is a bit of patience.

Value for Money

At almost $30 this is quite an expensive pump compared to other pumps of this type. The pump is made of aluminium rather than having plastic pieces, so the materials are of a higher quality than other brands, and there is also the additional capability of the hose. However I’m not sure that these features are worth the additional $15 over some of the other models of mini-pump I have used.

Final Verdict

Topeak Road Morph Mini Pump RaceRocket Master Blaster Bicycle Pump

The Topeak Road Morph mini pump is a great option as an emergency pump to take out on the trails or general cycle rides as it is light and small. It is an expensive option for what it does. The durability of the housing is likely to be greater than for other models, but I have reservations about whether the hose will match that durability. Overall there is nothing wrong with this pump, but I do feel that it is on the expensive side for what it is.
