So How Good is The Lezyne Alloy Drive CO2 Pump?
I have found this CO2 pump to be reliable and simple to use in order to pump up my road bike tires after I get flats. A number of the routes I use have sharp gravel and thorny shrubbery so flats are a regular occurrence. The Lezyne Alloy Drive pump is ideal for getting me back on the road quickly. The cartridge canister is also great as it means the cartridge is not exposed so I’m not in danger of getting frostbite on my fingers when I use it. The screw-on nozzle is also very useful for maximizing the amount of gas that goes into the tire, rather than escaping into the atmosphere.

Nozzles and Cartridges
The nozzle on the Lezyne Alloy Drive CO2 pump is a screw-on that will fit both Schrader and Presta valves. I have only used this on Presta valves to date and so I can’t comment on its use with Schrader valves. To date I have not had any problems getting a good seal and achieving rapid inflation of my tires. The pump is compatible with all types of CO2 cartridge, which makes it very useful if I need to buy any emergency cartridges as I am not limited to a particular type.

Size and Mounting
The pump is quite small and it will fit nicely into my saddle bag. The cartridge can be stored inside the pump, but I ensure that the cartridge has not been punctured because there isn’t a safety catch on this. There is no mount supplied with the pump, but this is better suited to being kept in a saddle bag, or other bag, because it doesn’t have that safety catch on it.

This pump is great for use on road bikes, which is what I have used it for. The 16g cartridge easily brings my tires up to a decent pressure to get me home. I also use the cartridges during races to pump up tires from flat before using a gauged pump to bring up the pressure to where I need it. The pump will also work on Schrader valves and so can be used on mountain bikes and also other tires with Schrader valves.

Ease of Use
The Lezyne Alloy Drive pump is very easy to use. All you have to do is insert the cartridge and tighten the canister to pierce it. Then just screw the nozzle onto the valve so that it forms a good seal. The gas is released by applying pressure straight down through the valve to fill the tire.

Value for Money
I own a number of Lezyne pumps and the main issue I have with their prices are that they vary, quite dramatically, by the color of the pump, which has nothing to do with the operation or build quality. However, overall I do like this pump and its robust and reliable operation means that I do feel that it represents value for money, even if some colors are better value than others.
