The Topeak CO2 pump is a race kit designed to help you change out tubes and reinflate tires quickly and easily when you are racing or out on a trail. The mounting has space for the inflator, two CO2 cartridges and a set of tire irons. Choosing the right pump can be difficult so check out the pros, cons and comments below:
- Universal nozzle with integrated dust cap
- Tire levers included
- Light weight
- Safety ring prevents accidental discharge
- Only compatible with 16g threaded cartridges
So How Good is The Topeak CO2 Pump?
The CO2-Bra pump works exactly as it should with a clamp-on nozzle. The pump clearly shows whether a cartridge has been punctured or not, so you have an easy way of telling whether it is full or already used, and there is also a safety ring that means it cannot accidentally be used when in transit. The fast inflation makes the pump handy for both race and recreational use, but I would still not ride without a frame pump as I can only refill as many tires as I have cartridges.

Nozzles and Cartridges
The Topeak CO2 pump has a universal nozzle that will connect with both Presta and Schrader valves. It the valves are threaded you are likely to find that the seal will degrade over time. The nozzle is a clamp-on style and so you have to make sure that it is sitting properly over the tire valve before opening the gas valve otherwise the gas will all escape out of the top of the pump. The pump uses 16g threaded cartridges, which are ideal for use with road bikes requiring higher pressures. I have found that an entire cartridge will bring my tires up to around 100 PSI. The pump is not compatible with unthreaded cartridges.

Size and Mounting
The pump is small in size and can fit either discreetly onto the bike frame, or it can pack away under the seat or in a pack. The mounting can be done so that the pump is mounted directly onto the bike, or it can be mounted in its travel bag to provide further protection from mud, water and grit.

The universal head makes this a useful pump for both road and mountain bikes. I have used it on both and found it to do the job it needs to do very well. It is a bit of an art inflating my mountain bike tires, but my road bike tires are easy. The Schrader valve compatibility means that this pump could also be used on car and motorbike tires if needed.

Ease of Use
Overall I have found this pump to be easy to use. The simple push on nozzle and clamp mechanism works well on both Presta and Schrader valves and filling a road tire is easy as it is just a case of releasing the safety ring and pressing the button until the cartridge is empty. Mountain bike tires take a little more care as it is relatively easy to overfill these tires.

Value for Money
Although I have found this pump to be a really good pump, I do feel that it is over-priced compared to other similar items on the market and I am also tied to buying the more expensive 16g threaded cartridges.

Overall I have found the Topeak CO2 pump to be a great mini pump that is reliable and easy to use. The little extras that have been designed in, such as the pressure indicator to show whether a cartridge has been pierced or not and the inclusion of high-quality tire irons, are nice touches and make this pump a great addition to my bike emergency repair kit.
