An electric bicycle pump is a luxury accessory that many cyclists enjoy. There are many electric pumps on the market. Most of them are multipurpose pumps designed to pump many things, including bicycle tires, car tires, kiddie pools, etc.
Oftentimes these pumps can be dangerous for bicycle tires because they have too much pressure, so your cyclist risks blowing the inner tube of their tire, but if you do your homework, an electric bicycle pump can be a great tool and a luxury to own.
Tips for Selecting the Best Electric Bicycle Pump
When selecting an electric bicycle pump, here are some of the things you will need to consider:

- Does it have to be a certain size?
- Do you have a particular budget you have to stick to?

Power Source
You need to consider where you will be pumping your bicycle tires up most often. Will you be indoors near an AC power outlet, or will you be out in the garage with a vehicle is the power source? Nozzles and Valves
One thing to be aware of when selecting an electric pump for inflating your cycle tires is that there are a number of different types of valve that can be found on a bicycle. Most mountain bikes and some hybrid bikes will have the standard Schrader valve that is also found on cars. These valves are quite large and are very easy to find pumps with suitable fittings.
A few mountain bicycles, some hybrid bicycles and most road bicycles will have Presta valves on them, which are much narrower than the Schrader valve. The main difference between the valves is that the Schrader valve is held shut with a spring, while a Presta valve has a locking nut. It is possible to get an adapter so that a Presta valve can use a Schrader nozzle.
Pressure Gauge
The pressure you need to inflate your bicycle tires can be precise, particularly if you race. In general, in-built pressure gauges will give you a rough idea of the exact pressure in a tire, but if you want an accurate reading, you should always use a manual pressure gauge. For many applications, the pressure gauges on electric pumps will be good enough to at least estimate the pressure in a tire.
Other Features
There are some additional features that you may also find in electric bicycle pumps. One of these is a function where you can set the pressure you want and then set the pump to continue pumping until the pressure is reached, at which point it will switch itself off. Other features could include internal cable storage compartments, making carriage and storage of the pump much easier.
Durability and Warranty
You should expect your electric air pump to last you several years, depending on how heavily it is used. Two years is generally accepted to be the minimum acceptable lifespan of this type of product, and so most warranties you find will be for two years.
Applications
When you are considering buying a pump, you should also be thinking about what you are going to use it for. Is it going to be a dedicated bicycle tire pump, or are you likely to use it for several other applications as well, which could include inflating car tires, footballs and basketballs, airbeds, and exercise balls? If you want a dedicated bicycle pump, you will need to ensure the nozzle is compatible with your bicycle. If you want a general-purpose pump, you will generally need a range of nozzles and adapters to make the best use of your pump.
Value for Money
Clearly you are not going to want to spend a fortune on an electric pump just to keep your bicycle tires inflated. There is a good range of small electric pumps available that are suitable for bicycle tires and these lie in the $30 to $50 price bracket.
