This 12V Compressor with gauge offers a good choice for a general purpose inflator for car tires and other household inflatable, but not a great choice for bicycles. Below are some of the pros and cons I have found.
- Metal parts and screw-on connector
- Carry case
- Variety of nozzles supplied
- Not suitable for bicycles requiring above 50 PSI
So How Good is The 12V Compressor With Gauge?
This 12V Compressor with gauge is one of the cheaper air compressors on the market and is a good choice for basic inflation tasks, such as pumping up car tires and balls and airbeds. Unlike many other pumps there is no protective housing over the pump and so you will find that it gets hot after use and you should always use the handle to relocate it during tasks.

This pump runs entirely off a 12V DC power supply, which is great for keeping car tires pumped up. I did find that my car cigarette lighter fuse blew if I tried to pump anything up above 35 PSI so I now use a jump start battery instead, which has a 12V DC outlet on it. For indoor use I use a power adapter so that I can plug this into the mains. While there is an option to buy one of these with the pump, I have used one from my local hardware store.

Nozzles and Valves
This pump comes with valves suitable for Schrader valves, balls and general inflatable equipment, such as airbeds and paddling pools. The nozzle is attached by screwing the nozzle onto the valve, which is much easier to control than a clamp-on system.

The pressure gauge on my pump was fine for a very general indication of pressure, but I have found that it is off by several pounds. Therefore I do not rely on the gauge at all when I need to pump up my car tires and I use an inline, high accuracy gauge instead.

Despite this pump being clearly advertised as a bicycle pump, among other things, I would suggest that any bicycle users check their requirements carefully before buying this pump. If you have Presta valves on your tires you will not be able to use this pump straight out of the box. Also, if you have road tires on your bike this pump is unlikely to be able to get your tires up to pressure. My road tires require 110 PSI, and this pump only managed to pump them up to 50 PSI before it shut off. For kids bikes and many mountain bikes, car tires and other inflatable, this is not a problem and the system works fine.

Ease of Use
The system is very easy to use as it is simply a case of plugging it in, connecting it up and switching it on using the rocker switch. There is no manual included with the pump, which isn’t a problem for general operation, but it would be useful to have information such as the actual maximum PSI the pump is rated to (rather than assuming that the gauge is marked up with it), a note about the pump heating up to high temperatures and also how to protect your fuses from blowing if used in a car 12V DC outlet.

Value for Money
This 12V Compressor with gauge is one of the cheaper models of pump on the market and while it is a good price for a 12V air pump, the limitations that it has means that I feel it is perhaps not as good value as it could be.

For kids bicycles, car tires and general purpose inflating, this air pump is certainly adequate. However, for use as a bicycle pump for adult bikes, and in particular for hybrid and road bikes, this is not a suitable pump to buy.
