Power Source

Unlike many other inflators I have come across the Black & Decker ASI300 has both mains and 12V DC power cables. This is great as I can use the inflator both in the house for exercise balls and blow-up mattresses, and also use it to keep my car tires topped up without having to find extension cables and power sockets.

Nozzles and Valves

There are three nozzles included with this inflator. There is the standard tire connector, a needle connection, which is great for keeping balls pumped up, and also an extension nozzle. The inflator is great for keeping my mountain bike tires pumped up, but it is worth noting that the nozzle is not compatible with my road bike.

Pressure Gauge

The pressure gauge really only provides a rough estimate of the pressure in whatever is being pumped up. This isn’t a problem for items like mattresses as they are easy enough to just pump up until they feel right. For tires I generally set the pressure slightly high and then check it with a manual pressure gauge. It’s easy to just let out a little pressure to get it right than trying to pump in a little bit more air each time until the right pressure is reached. Usefully, the gauge is also illuminated, which is perfect when there is no other lighting around.

Ease of Use

The Black Decker ASI300 electric bicycle tire pump is very easy to use. The only slight down side is that the on/off switch is in a slightly awkward place, but that doesn’t stop this being a great little pump. Also, the gauge is not particularly accurate but, as already mentioned, the use of a manual gauge to obtain an accurate reading offsets this.
