So How Good is The Campbell Hausfeld Air Compressor?
Overall I have been very impressed with the performance of this inflator and have successfully used it to inflate a number of different objects. While not the fastest air pump I have used, it does its job and does it in a reasonable amount of time. The noise of the unit is not much different from most other pumps I have used in the past.

The Campbell Hausfeld air compressor is powered solely from a 120V mains electricity supply. This is fantastic for use when at home, but it means that this inflator is not the sort I can keep in my car for emergency tire inflations unless I also have a power inverter to plug into the car’s 12V socket.

Nozzles and Valves
All of the common valves and nozzles are included with the RP4100 including the Schrader nozzle for car tires, a needle nozzle for balls and general purpose nozzles for inflating things like airbeds and exercise balls. The only thing it doesn’t come with is a nozzle for use with a Presta valve. This means that I have had to buy an adaptor for my hybrid bicycle as it has the slimline Presta valves rather than the fatter Schrader valves.

The pressure gauge is pretty good and about what I would expect from a built-in pressure gauge. I have found that it is not accurate enough to give a reading to the nearest PSI, but it gets to within about ±2. Depending on what I’m doing I either overfill the tire and use a tire pressure gauge to monitor the tire and deflate it slightly, or I use an inline pressure gauge for an accurate measurement while I’m inflating.

I have found the Campbell Hausfeld air compressor to be a great general purpose machine and it is perfect for keeping my car tires topped up and blowing up airbeds. The clamp-on nozzle is quick and easy to use, but it is worth noting that you will need reasonably good access to the valve. Although I have used this on my motorbike tires, it is a very tight fit because of the clamping mechanism and I wouldn’t want to have to rely on this as my only means of filling my bike tires. Also, if you are buying this as a bicycle pump, check what sort of valves are on your bike. The Schrader type are fine, but there is no nozzle for Presta valves included.

Ease of Use
The Campbell Hausfeld air compressor is very easy to use. The clamp-on mechanism is easy to get into place, unless you’re trying to attach it to a motorbike tire. I have found that sometimes it can be difficult to get the nozzle off the valve and so I lose some pressure in these instances. The unit has happily filled items up to 45 PSI and although it does get slower at these pressures it doesn’t sound like it is straining.

Value for Money
Considering this pump costs less than $50 it is very capable and provides a reliable method for pumping up inflatables and tires. The multi-purpose nature of it makes it useful all around the home and garage with just a couple of minor limitations.
