So How Good is The Avenir Bicycle Shock Pump?

Performance

I found this pump to perform very well once I had sorted out exactly how the anti-leak valve system worked. There were no instructions provided with the pump, but there are instructions available on the internet. The pump easily pumped up my high pressure shocks, and I also managed to use it on some low pressure shocks although the pressure was a bit of guess work as the gauge doesn’t start until 20 PSI is in the system.

Nozzles and Chucks

The nozzle that is on this pump is ideal for most suspension systems on mountain and road bikes. There may be some shock valves that are too short for this pump to operate properly so it is a good idea to check the compatibility. In general though, this pump connects easily to suspension Schrader valves. The pump is not suitable for Presta tire valves. The anti-leak system works well with a little bit of practice and I can control the pressure in my shocks really well.

Size and Mounting

The Avenir bicycle shock pump is a folding pump that is also fairly lightweight and so it can be either attached to a frame or put in a pack to be taken along on rides where the shock pressures may need to be adjusted. There is a hook and loop attachment included with the pump that can be used for mounting the pump quickly and easily.

Pressure Gauge and PSI Rating

The pressure gauge on the Avenir bicycle shock pump is broken down into 50 PSI divisions and has 10 PSI subdivisions. This means that the pump is best suited for high pressure use, but it is still possible to use the pump for lower pressure shocks as well. The pump is rated up to 400 PSI and so this pump is ideal for all high pressure shocks.

Applications

I use this pump solely for pumping up my suspension systems as although it can potentially be used on Schrader valves on tires, it isn’t the most ergonomic pump for inflating tires and it also takes a long time. It certainly shouldn’t be used for bikes with Presta valves. It has been designed particularly with high pressure use in mind and so it is of limited value in low pressure tasks, particularly for some motorbike shocks, and other options should perhaps be considered if these low pressure tasks are the dominant tasks.

Ease of Use

Once I had found instructions to use the anti-leak valve correctly I found this pump easy to use and effectively pumped my high pressure shocks up to 250 PSI. I have also used this on lower pressure systems and found that with a bit of gentle use it is possible to get an approximate pressure.
